Yesterday, on the 6th of March 2017, Ghana celebrated 60 years of independence from colonial oppression. It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride since then; and, of course, there are very valid arguments to be made as to whether Ghana’s sovereignty is thorough on all levels – social, economic, political…

Regardless though, independence is a beautiful thing to have, a thing worthy of celebration – just as worthy as the struggle of women and men of the then Gold Coast to free themselves from colonialism, has proven. Even of more worthiness – and necessity! – is the responsibility of the people now, to carry on with the struggle to total freedom and justice, to absolute emancipation.

As an offering, yoyo tinz presents “60 and facing forward” – a mix of ten plus one songs by Ghanaian rap artistes based ultimately on the ever relevant theme of freedom. These are songs sung by the concerned voices of patriots who attempt to, among other things, give historical lessons, advocate pan-Africanism, instill racial pride. Some of these are laments, too, and most of all, consider this body of work as a call to action…

Listen, Enjoy, Be motivated and Inspired. A Luta Continua!
